English Talk: Understanding Autism

In conjunction with Children Respite Home (KL) Sdn. Bhd Open Day

Join us for a meaningful and eye-opening session designed for parents, educators, caregivers, and anyone who wants to understand autism in a clearer, practical, and medically-informed way.

"When medical knowledge is listened to carefully, it can be transformed into more careful judgment and more gentle care."

This is not just a talk — it's an experience

What happens to your child when you are not around for a few days… or one day, no longer around at all? This upcoming special-needs parents session is not a talk — it's an experience. You'll be able to step inside a care centre, see how children are supported, and quietly ask yourself: "If I ever needed help, would this be a place I trust with my child?"

We will also touch on a question many parents think about—but rarely talk about: How do you pass on your assets safely to a special-needs child, without risking misuse, family conflict, or future uncertainty?

This is a small, focused session to allow meaningful sharing. Only 10 seats available now. Registration closes on 4 January or once seats are filled — whichever comes first.

Come with curiosity. Leave with peace of mind.

Interview with CEO Ho Jun Wei

Q1. What is a trust? What misunderstandings do people in general have about trusts? What is Special Child Trust (SCT)?

Trust is a legal document which contains of arrangement conducted by the trustee company. Many people misunderstand a trust as a unit trust investment. In fact, it is the exact opposite. A unit trust is about growing money through market exposure. A trust is about protecting assets through legal structure. Special child trust is an arrangement for the parent to set for their children on future living upon their absenteeism.

Q2. Please list five reasons to setup special child trust.

  • Special children do not know how to manage inheritance money, they need someone to help them on money management
  • Under privilege children do not know how to express their needs
  • They do not know what to do when they ill, they need medical attention
  • They need someone who they can rely on

Q3. How does it work? What can the trust provide for special needs children?

It is burden for the parent to give us (Trustees) the money during the setup, or even properties, we prefer life insurance policy and we will represent the parent to deal with insurance company and do different arrangement payout.

Trustee can pay on the living expenses to the guardian, if the child need to receive therapy, then the trust can fund the therapy fee, even the medical fee as some of them are not eligible to buy medical insurance. If one day, the guardian unable to take care of the children due to family arrangement, they can send the children to the boarding, and the trustee will pay for their boarding fee.

Lastly, the trust can also pay the guardian monthly fee as a token of appreciation to help taking care of the children upon both the parents' demise.

Q4. How much does it cost? When will it take effect?

The setup fee is RM1500, and IRB stamping fee and admin charges, the stamping fee varies from insurance policy amount. And since it is life insurance policy, the trust take effect upon the policy holder demise.

Interview with Ms Ashley Pang

Q1. At what point did you discover that your child is different from the average child?

From birth. He was diagnosed by doctor from birth.

Q2. What made you decide to take your child for evaluation and intervention?

Early intervention proven to work very well.

Q3. What changes does early intervention make to children?

  • 1.Narrow the gap.
  • 2.Allowing the child to develop at own pace in assisted manners.
  • 3.Given good support to parents/ caregivers to do home therapy and support the child better.

Q4. Do you agree that understanding earlier does not mean jumping to conclusions immediately, but intervening earlier is giving the child more opportunities?

Do not hesitate.

Acceptance is the first move. The earlier the child receives early intervention the better chance to narrow the developmental delay.

Q5. What do you think is the greatest value of "early intervention" from a medical and public education perspective?

Rewiring the brain connection towards typical development. Narrow down the gap of the developmental delay. Provide better readiness towards inclusion from school or social and mental development.
